Rather than being a purely rah-rah book, Salatin would rather scare off potential farmers than have them get themselves into something they don’t really want and consequently will fail at anyway. While it is good to point out flawed methods that should have been captured in the scientific peer review process, his wave of the hand toward belief in other areas alternative medicine an Fwrm, I would say most of the advice here is still quite applicable For those looking to get a sample of Joel, there is an extensive YouTube selection to choose from.
I love this book! He demonstrates a profound respect for the earth as he sees it, and I applaud him for espousing such a positive, “can do” message. Sep 05, Miles rated it it was ok.

This realization dawned on me after reading about the difference between a backyard vineyard and a 1 acre vineyard. The result is healthy, beyond organic meat and eggs. Any food production system that stinks up the neighborhood — regardless czn how rural — is unacceptable.

The value of this book for me lies not in Joel Salatin’s prose, which is painful to read, but in a simple question he asks. I can hardly contain my excitement. Likewise, he explains simple jkel to keep costs down and productivity up.

I had to stop reading this because Joel Salatin needs to hire an editor. You’ll be earning a living from your farming, making a profit that you csn save.
It is inspirational and will save many new and wannabe farmers a lot of time, trouble, and money if they follow the advice therein. Salatin takes Uoel stewardship of the earth seriously, and it is a joy to read what this has led him to do. The greatest suggestion in the book is simply start now. The biggest obstacle with that is urban zoning codes that prohibit agriculture, especially animals.
